United States Foreign Policy

Themes

The course begins with an exploration of the constitutional basis for the making of foreign policy followed by a brief historical overview of the patterns of the U.S.’s involvement in global politics. We then turn to a detailed examination of the politics of U.S. foreign policy by exploring the multitude of institutions involved in the making of U.S. foreign policy. Finally we will examine the foreign policies the U.S. has implemented since WWII, with respect to specific themes (international organization and law, terrorism…) and through a series of regional case studies (Latin America, Middle East, Europe…).
