The Politics of Populism in Comparative Perspective

Themes

This course aims to provide a comprehensive and comparative overview of the development of populist politics in the twenty-first century. The course will begin with an introduction to the concept and study of populism before examining the varieties of populism (both left- and right-wing). Following this, the course will explore several case studies in order to apply the broader themes covered in the course to specific country cases and will conclude by discussing the implications of the rise of populism for mainstream politics.
