Introduction to Quantitative Reasoning I

Introduces the foundations of quantitative empirical research methods with the goal of enabling students to evaluate readings in political science and public policy that employ these methods. Topics include the scientific method, correlation and causality, and communicating descriptive and inferential statistics. No mathematical background beyond elementary-school arithmetic required.

Format and Requirements
Two lectures per week with occasional tutorials (mainly in the latter part of the term. The course will be assessed by two tests, a review of a research paper, a series of worksheets, and small quizzes.

1.0 credit in POL/ JPA/ JPF/ JPI/ JPR/ JPS/ JRA courses
