Topics in International Politics I
The focus of this seminar will be peacebuilding. When did it emerge as a concept? What does it mean or involve? What role can and do states, international organizations, and nongovernmental organizations play in building an enduring peace? What is the appropriate balance between top-down and bottom-up approaches? Cases to be examined will include, among others, Uganda, El Salvador, South Africa, Ethiopia, Cambodia, Sri Lanka and Somalia.
