The Politics of Representation
Themes
This course examines the politics of representation for marginalized groups in Canada, including women, LGBTQ+ people, racialized minority groups, people with disabilities and the working class. Why is it important for groups to be represented in elected office? Why are marginalized groups numerically under-represented in elected office? How can we increase the representation of marginalized groups in elected office? These questions provide an opportunity to learn about parties, elections and representation from a political science perspective, as well as build foundational skills for undergraduate education.
