Causal Inference in Political Science Research
Themes
Many political science research questions involve causal relationships between political, economic, and social variables. Recently, political scientists have increasingly paid careful attention to whether we can infer a causal relationship between variables based on empirical analysis. This class will cover these serious attempts for causal inference in political science research. We will review a basic theoretical framework for causal inference, various empirical research designs and statistical methods to address the issues surrounding causal inference. We will also read political science research articles that have addressed important causal questions in various subfields of our discipline.
