Politics and Transformation of Asia-Pacific
The course provides a comparative analysis of selected political systems of East and Southeast Asia, with an emphasis on understanding political change and its relationship to the socio-economic transformation of the region. Particular attention is paid to the nature of political power and the character of the governing regimes of each country. Other related topics include nationalism, the cold war, and economic development.
Format and Requirements
Lectures and tutorials. Mid-term test (25%), two essays (20% each), final test (25%); tutorial participation (10%).
