Ethnic Politics in Comparative Perspective

Themes

An exploration of approaches to the sources of ethnic conflict and ethnic conflict management in modern society. Cases will be chosen from: West Europe: conflict and power-sharing (Northern Ireland, Switzerland), and immigrant minorities; Israel; South Africa; East European disintegration: Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia; role of nationalities in collapse of former Soviet Union and in post-Soviet state-building; EU accession and minority rights.
