Tentative list of texts: Sophocles, Antigone; Plato, Republic; Aristotle, Politics; Augustine, City of God, Machiavelli, Prince; Hobbes, Leviathan; Locke, Second Treatise of Government; Rousseau, Second Discourse and Social Contract; Hegel, Philosophy of Right.

Format and Requirements

Format: seminar (details TBA). Tentative requirements: six short (600 word maximum) response papers; class participation; 15-page term paper.
