Political Parties in Comparative Perspective
Themes
This course surveys the main puzzles and theories on the origins, nature and effects of parties and party systems. We explore how institutions, societal cleavages and strategic action shape parties. We study the impact of parties on policy outcomes, and we examine issues of party collapse, ethnic parties, clientelism, and dominant parties.
