Studies in Civic Republicanism
This course will explore the Book of Exodus, focusing on the iconic/legendary figure of Moses and his relevance for the subsequent tradition of Western political thought, not excluding the civic-republican tradition.
Book of Exodus. Some possible commentaries include Michael Walzer, Exodus and Revolution; Jan Assman, Moses the Egyptian, and Aaron Wildavsky, Moses as Political Leader.
Format and Requirements
One two-hour seminar per week. We will begin with some lectures on Exodus; seminars on various related topics thereafter.
