Core Course: Theories and Issues in the Politics of Development
Themes
This course focuses on the seminal studies in /development studies since World War II. Following a session on the criteria for evaluating social-scientific theories, each successive week will involve a critical analysis of a key book (in whole or in part) that represents a major school of analysis. The course is designed to prepare Ph.D. students for the field examination in the development studies area.

Format and Requirements
In this seminar course, students will be evaluated on the basis of one presentation,2 critical reflections on required books/schools of analysis, one essay relating to the themes in the course, and class participation.
