Qualitative Methods in Political Research

Themes

This course surveys qualitative methods used in political science research. After briefly reviewing positivist and interpretivist research traditions, the course covers the ideal-typical and practical uses of specific qualitative methods, including interviewing, collecting oral histories, archival research, participant and non-participant observation, and ethnography. Examples used will come from history, sociology, anthropology, and political science.
