Emotions in Political Theory
Themes
This course will begin with a study of selected texts in the history of political thought to explore the development of the conceptualisation of the nature of the emotions and of their place in politics. The second part of the course will be devoted to a consideration of contemporary debates concerning the place of emotion in political life today. Authors studied will include: Plato, Aristotle, Descartes, Hume, Nussbaum, Solomon and Hall.
