Admission to Political Science Programs

Admission to POL Subject POSt

Program request is available through the Student Web Service. Enrolment procedures are outlined in the Faculty of Arts & Science 2012-2013 Registration Handbook and Timetable, and students are strongly urged to read and follow carefully the instructions.

POL Specialist, Major and Minor

The Specialist, Major and Minor programs in Political Science are Type 2 programs.  Students may request these programs on the SWS after completing at least four full-course equivalents and fulfilling the admission requirements.

There are two request periods for Type 2 programs.  Students who complete the required courses during the 2011-2012 Fall/Winter sessions, may request the program during the first request period:  April 2nd – May 15th.   Results of these requests will be available on the SWS beginning July 3rd.  Students who have been given an “INVITE” status on ROSI must accept the program before August 8, 2012.  Students who fail to accept the Subject POSt before August 8th will forfeit their status and must re-apply during the second request period.

Students who complete the required courses during the 2012 summer session, may request the program during the second request period: July 3rd – August 29th. Results of these requests will be available on the SWS beginning September 13th. Students who have been given an “INVITE” status on ROSI must accept the program before September 23, 2012.  Students who fail to accept the Subject POSt before September 23rd  will forfeit their status and must re-apply as of April 1, 2013.

Students transferring between POL programs must complete the program change on the SWS by the deadline specified for the two request periods above.

Students will have to meet the following requirements in order to be admitted to the Minor program in Political Science:

1. Complete four full course equivalents towards the undergraduate degree
2. A mark of at least  65% in one full POL course or the equivalent in half courses

Students enrolling at the end of First Year (or four full courses or their equivalent) must meet the following requirements in order to be admitted to the Specialist and Major programs in Political Science:

1. A mark of at least 67% in one full POL course or the equivalent in half courses

Students applying to enrol after Second Year (or eight full courses or their equivalent) must meet the following requirements in order to be admitted to the Specialist and Major programs in Political Science:

1. A mark of at least 70% in each of two full POL courses or the equivalent in half courses
