Current research is on populism in Latin America and the Global South, and on the politics of poverty and inequality. Publications include articles on the politics of Latin America and the Global South in scholarly journals such as Race and Class, World Development, Third World Quarterly, International Political Science Review, Comparative Politics, Global Governance, Studies in Comparative International Development, Latin American Politics and Society, Latin American Research Review, The Canadian Journal of Political Science, and in edited volumes. Author of The Politics of Inclusive Development. Policy, State Capacity and Coalition Building (Palgrave 2016); Social Forces and States: Poverty and Distributional Outcomes in South Korea, Chile and Mexico (Stanford University Press, 2012); Co-author, Social Democracy in the Global Periphery: Origins, Challenges, Prospects (Cambridge University Press, 2007); Author of The Politics of Freeing Markets in Latin America: Chile, Argentina and Mexico (University of North Carolina Press, 2001) and of two books on Mexican politics.
