Biography

Michaela is a PhD candidate in the Department of Political Science, a SSHRC Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada doctoral fellow, and the lab coordinator for the Environmental Governance Lab at the University of Toronto. Her dissertation research focuses on bureaucratic responses to lying and deception of/within international organizations.

From 2020-2022, Michaela worked as a political officer in the Greater China Division at Global Affairs Canada and was the inaugural Margaret Meagher Fellow for the division. Before arriving at UofT, Michaela worked at the China Institute, a Canadian foreign policy think tank. She has previously held graduate fellowships with the Institute for Municipal Finance and Governance, Global Affairs Canada, and the Smart Prosperity Institute, and has attended graduate research programs in mainland China and Taiwan. Michaela holds an MA in Political Science at the University of British Columbia, and a BA in Environmental Studies at the University of Alberta.
