The Department of Political Science is proud to announce that many of our emerging graduate scholars have been awarded prestigious external scholarships from this year’s various award competitions.
The SSHRC Doctoral Fellowships and Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarships (CGS) Doctoral Scholarships aim to develop research skills and assist in the training of highly qualified personnel by supporting students who demonstrate a high standard of scholarly achievement in undergraduate and graduate studies in the social sciences and humanities.

The Government of Canada launched the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS) program in 2008 to strengthen Canada’s ability to attract and retain world-class doctoral students and establish Canada as a global centre of excellence in research and higher learning. Vanier Scholars demonstrate leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement in graduate studies in the social sciences and/or humanities, natural sciences and/or engineering and health.
Our winner from this year’s competition is: Asif Farooq
The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation promotes outstanding research in the humanities and social sciences, and fosters a fruitful dialogue between scholars and policy makers in the arts community, business, government, the professions, and the voluntary sector. The Foundation encourages emerging talent by awarding Trudeau Scholarships to the most talented doctoral students in Canada and abroad.
Our winner from this year’s competition is: Erin Aylward
The Ontario Graduate Scholarship Program encourages excellence in graduate studies at the master’s and doctoral levels. It is a merit-based scholarship. Awards are available to students in all disciplines of academic study.
The OGS program is jointly funded by the Province of Ontario and the university awarding the scholarship. Ontario contributes two-thirds of the value of the award and the university provides one-third.
