Congrats to Professor Bashevkin, who has been awarded a prestigious Insight Development Grant by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC).
The title of Bashevkin’s project is: Women’s Leadership in the Canadian Provinces.
This study is among the first to document and evaluate in comparative terms the contributions of women premiers and opposition party leaders at the provincial level in Canada. The primary subjects are provincial leaders from Alberta, British Columbia, Newfoundland and Labrador, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Quebec. These six provinces rank among the only sub-national units in a single advanced industrial country in the world in which female elites from divergent parties held top political executive positions for more than one year. Moreover, the cases of Alberta, Newfoundland and Ontario provide an equally unusual opportunity to assess the interactions of female opposition party leaders with female premiers from other parts of the ideological spectrum.
