Congratulations to Aisha Ahmad, Sylvia Bashevkin, Peter Russell and Linda White who have all received nominations for CPSA (Canadian Political Science Association) awards!
Professor Ahmad and White have both been shortlisted for the CPSA Prize in Comparative Politics for their books Jihad &Co. Black Markets and Islamic Power (Oxford University Press 2017), and Constructing Policy Change – Early Childhood Education and Care in Liberal Welfare States (University of Toronto Press 2017) respectively. It should be noted that the other shortlisted book in this category is The Schematic State: Race, Transnationalism, and the Politics of the Census (Cambridge University Press 2016) by Debra Thompson who received her PhD from our department in 2010. The CPSA Prize in Comparative Politics is awarded every two years to the best book published in English or in French in the field of Comparative Politics.
Professor Russell’s book Canada’s Odyssey: A Country Based on Incomplete Conquests (University of Toronto Press 2017) has been shortlisted for the Donald Smiley Prize, awarded to the best book published in English or French in the field relating to the study of government and politics in Canada.
Professor Bashevkin’s paper Listening to women leaders: Feminist narratives among US foreign policy appointees has been short listed for the 2018 Jill Vickers Prize awarded to the author of the best paper presented at the 2017 CPSA conference on the topic of gender and politics.
The winners will be announced at the 2018 CPSA Annual Conference President’s Dinner being held this year in Regina on May 31, 2018.
