Professor Louis W. Pauly will serve as the Acting Chair of the Department of Political Science effective July 1, 2024 until June 30, 2025. He is the J. Stefan Dupré Distinguished Professor of Political Economy at the University of Toronto, where he has also served as chair of the Department of Political Science (2012 – 2017) and director of research centres that now comprise core elements of the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy. A graduate of Cornell University (PhD, 1987), the London School of Economics (MSc with distinction, 1977), New York University (Advanced Professional Certificate in International Finance, 1976), and Fordham University (MA, 1975; BA, 1974), he is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, a Senior Fellow of Massey College, and a Fellow and Governing Board Member of Trinity College.

From 2007 to 2012 he co-edited the journal International Organization, and in 2015, he received the Distinguished Scholar Award in International Political Economy from the International Studies Association. His personal and collaborative publications include over eighty peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, as well as Power in a Complex Global System (Routledge, 2014); Global Ordering: Institutions and Autonomy in a Changing World (UBC Press, 2008); Global Liberalism and Political Order (SUNY Press, 2007); Complex Sovereignty (University of Toronto Press, 2005); Governing the World’s Money (Cornell UP, 2002); Democracy Beyond the State (Rowman & Littlefield, 2000); The Myth of the Global Corporation (Princeton UP, 1998); Who Elected the Bankers? (Cornell UP, 1997); and Opening Financial Markets (Cornell UP, 1988). His latest book manuscript, Insuring States:Governing Beyond the Limits of Risk and Sovereignty, is currently under review.
