On September 18th, political theorist Ryan Balot delivered the second annual Constantine Mitsotakis Memorial Lecture in honour of the late politician and former Prime Minister of Greece (1990–1993) in Athens.
Introduced by New Democracy party leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis, son of the late politician who is widely tipped to become the next Greek Prime Minister, the theme of the evening was ‘courage’ with Professor Balot delivering his keynote speech entitled ‘Courage as a Democratic Virtue: An Ancient Greek Ideal and Its Contemporary Prospects.’
Professor Balot said “it was a moving experience to honor one of Greece’s foremost leaders by speaking on courage, a quality for which he was particularly well known. It was also unforgettable to follow his son, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, to the podium, since Mr. Mitsotakis is a very impressive national leader and someone who combines great intelligence with passion and charisma.”
