In a piece written by Maclean’s writer Michael Petrou, Phil Triadafilopoulos comments on Germany’s reaction to the Syrian refugee crisis and why German chancellor Angela Merkel has been nicknamed ‘Mother of the outcasts’. Phil Triadafilopoulos is Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Toronto. He teaches courses in public policy at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) and the School of Public Policy and Governance (SPPG), and conducts research in the areas of immigration and citizenship policy in Europe and North America.
