Not sure if your vision of Toronto is ‘anti-establishment’ or just ‘social democratic’? A new web tool called The Political Sentimeter can help you decipher the intricacies of those complex ideological cleavages.
The Political Sentimeter quiz is the latest invention from Vox Pop Labs, a group of political scientists who previously developed the Vote Compass and who are currently working on their PhD’s in the Department of Political Science.
“We set out to challenge the idea of a left-right binary, which we suspected was not only artificial but harmful to meaningful dialogue,” said Clifton van der Linden, the company’s founder and current doctoral candidate, in The Toronto Star. “What we discovered is that, yes, conventional understandings of left and right are meaningful in the context of Toronto. But what’s important is that Torontonians are not ideologically situated at either end of this continuum. We all occupy the shared space in between the caricatures of left and right.”
The quiz has garnered significant attention on Twitter and Facebook over the last week. To take the test for yourself, please click here.
