Professor Nelson Wiseman provides his expert opinion on Canadian Politics

Recently Political Science Professor Nelson Wiseman was interviewed by both Time.com and The Toronto Star on issues relating to Canadian Politics. Often Professor Wiseman is quoted in the media on issues pertaining to politics in Canada, and here are some highlights:

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has made the municipal politics of Toronto interesting to say the very least and recently Time.com weighed in on how this mayor has reshaped the attention paid to Toronto politics. In the article “Toronto Mayor Singlehandedly Makes Canadian Politics Interesting Again”, Professor Wiseman provides his insight into the Rob Ford phenomena, particularly how 30% of Torontonians still support the mayor:

Explains Nelson Wiseman, a professor of Canadian government at the University of Toronto, “Not withstanding all this, a third of the public would still vote for him. They see him as a big dumb guy like them—a Rodney Dangerfield type who just can’t get no respect.”

In other news the former U.S. ambassador to Canada, Paul Cellucci, passed away recently due to complications with ALS. In The Toronto Star’s article discussing the role Cellucci played in Canadian politics, Professor Wiseman had the following to say:

“You can’t separate the man from either the president and the president’s party, and what’s going on at that time in the world,” Wiseman said in an interview Sunday.
