Clifton van der Linden receives a 2013 Clarkson Laureate in Public Service

February 19, 2013

Massey College has named Clifton van der Linden and Dr. David Malone as 2013 Clarkson Laureates in Public Service.

Mr. van der Linden is a PhD student with the Department of Political Science and has been a non-resident Junior Fellow for nearly five years during which time he has rendered valuable service to the Massey Community and to many organizations outside the University where his altruism, good nature and remarkable generosity are all deployed with a typical lack of self-promotion. John Fraser, Master and Chairman of Corporation, describes Professor van der Linden as a quiet but exceptional force for good in whatever community he finds himself, whether it is Massey, the YMCA, the Mosaic Institute or Journalists for Human Rights.

The Clarkson Laureateships were begun in 2005 to honour the public service of the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson as she was coming to the end of her successful term as Canada’s 26th Governor General and Commander-in-Chief. The 2013 Laureates will be honoured at a special High Table next Friday, February 22nd. In addition to the honour, each will be given a monetary award of $500 to be donated to a cause of their own choosing.
