Vote Compass: Many Alberta voters still undecided

Unlike previous provincial campaigns it looks like the April 23 election may come down to one group of Albertans — the undecided voters.

Most undecided Vote Compass respondents rated health care as their most important issue, according to recently compiled data.

But undecided respondents to CBC’s online voter engagement tool also want to continue public spending on abortion, ranking the issue as second most important.

Vote Compass executive director Clifton van der Linden speculates contentious social issues such as abortion may have many Alberta voters preparing to vote strategically to stop the surging Wildrose Party.

“We see some indecision around whether to vote for PC or the left-leaning parties,” he told CBC News.

“We may see this turn into a strategic voting exercise where people who would normally vote for the Liberals or, perhaps, vote for the NDP, will, in fact, shift their vote to the Progressive Conservatives on election day to offset a Wildrose victory,” says van der Linden.
