Statement of the Chair of the Selection Committee:

The selection committee, comprised of Ella Myers (University of Utah), Beth Kiyoko Jamieson (The Fund for New Jersey), and Christine “Cricket” Keating (Ohio State University) read a number of impressive conference papers. Among the excellent submissions, “Desire Recast: The Production of Gay Identity in Iran” by Katarzyna Korycki and Abouzar Nasirzadeh, was unanimously chosen for the award. The paper deftly combines careful historical analysis with rich theoretical insights to illuminate the dynamic, complex constitution of gay identity in the Iranian context. Section 38 of APSA is delighted to recognize such outstanding scholarship.
