Constantine’s dissertation—A Moderate Aristocrat and his Enlightened Scots: The Balance of Virtue and Commerce in the Political Thought of Montesquieu—compares Montesquieu with his French and Scottish contemporaries on questions concerning commercial self-interest, political virtue, and the role of religion in market society. He has recently co-edited Emotions, Community, Citizenship: Cross-Disciplinary Perspectives (University of Toronto Press, 2017). He is also interested in the political thought of Plutarch and his reception in Early Modern and Enlightenment Europe.
