Biography

Mathias Albert is a Professor of Political Science at Bielefeld University and Honorary Professor at the University of Aarhus. His main research focuses on understanding world politics in the social context of world society, thereby bringing both sociological and historical perspectives to the study of international relations. He also keeps a high public profile through his work in the area of youth studies, particularly through running the German Shell Youth Survey. Author of A Theory of World Politics (currently in preparation), Zur Politik der Weltgesellschaft (2002) and co-author of various issues of the Shell Jugenstudie. Co-editor of Identities, Borders, Orders (2001), Observing International Relations (2004), New Systems Theories of World Politics (2010), Bringing Sociology to International Relations (2013); and numerous journal articles and chapters in books. Major research interests are sociological and historical perspectives on world politics, world society theory, and youth studies.
