Biography
Primary research interests: history of political thought (early modern Europe and America) and contemporary political theory (toleration, democratic disagreement, civility and civic education). Secondary research interests: religion and politics, American political development. She received her Ph.D. with distinction from Yale University and was awarded a Mellon Fellowship from the Society of Fellows in the Humanities at Columbia University before coming to Toronto. Recent publications include articles on Hobbes and Roger Williams in History of European Ideas and the Oxford Review of Education, as well as chapters in various edited volumes. She is currently at work on a book entitled Mere Civility: Tolerating Disagreement in Early Modern England and America.
