Congratulations to Peter Loewen who has been appointed the Robert Vipond Distinguished Professor in Democracy, from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2028.
Professor Loewen, the Director of the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, is also the Director of PEARL (Policy, Elections & Representation Lab), Associate Director of the Schwartz Reisman Institute for Technology and Society, a Senior Fellow at Massey College, and a Fellow with the Public Policy Forum.
His work focuses on how politicians can make better decisions, how citizens can make better choices, and how governments can address the disruption of technology and harness its opportunities. He also aims to understand the political and social consequences of COVID-19.
Professor Loewen’s work has been published in many leading journals, including Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Nature Medicine, and American Political Science Review. He has edited four books and is a regular contributor to the media. His work has been rewarded by the American Political Science Association and in 2015, he was awarded the Contemporary Achievement Award by his alma mater, Mount Allison University.
