Postdoctoral Fellow Positions

JOB POSTING – POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWS OF CHINESE POLITICS OR POLITICAL ECONOMY 
 
The Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy is looking to hire a Postdoctoral Fellow to support Professor Lynette Ong at the China Governance Lab. 

Area of Research: Chinese Politics or Chinese Political Economy

Description of Duties: To conduct research related to Chinese politics and/or political economy, including collecting and analyzing Chinese government and social media data, and author academic publications. To take charge of research projects, including leading a team of student researchers, and execute deliverables as instructed by supervisor. Opportunities for collaboration with supervisor. Possible areas of specialization: state-business relations, public opinion, conflict studies, and governance.

Salary: $65,000 per year, plus standard benefits.

Closing Date: Application opens MAY 15, 2025 and will close once the position is filled.

Supervisor: Professor Lynette Ong, Distinguished Professor of Chinese Politics, University of Toronto.

Expected Start Date: July 1, 2025. 

Required Qualifications: Candidates must have a PhD, with a strong background in quantitative methods, including computational social science. Knowledge of Chinese politics, and proficiency in Mandarin Chinese are also required.

Term: 1 year with a renewal opportunity for a second year
FTE: This is a full-time position. The normal hours of work are 40 hours per week for a full-time postdoctoral fellow, recognizing that the needs of the employee’s research and training and the needs of the supervisor’s research program may require flexibility in the performance of the employee’s duties and hours of work.
