Attention: 4th Year POL Majors and Specialists
The POL Major program requires all students to have at least 0.5 credit at the 400-level and the POL Specialist at least 1.0 credit at the 400-level. To best match the available classes with students’ preferences and ensure you can complete your POL program requirements to graduate in June 2026, please rank your preferred 400–level courses in order.
- Between June 2 and June 22, 2025, please go to https://app.cognomos.com/rank/toronto-POL-25 and rank your course preference.
- Login will be based on your UTORid.
- The site will be open and available until June 22, 2025.
- You can modify your course preferences/ranking anytime from June 2 to June 22, 2025.

Course descriptions and instructors’ information are available on the Department’s website: Instruction 400-Level Courses
Please Note:
- To maximize your chances of securing a place in a POL course (Majors: 0.5 FCE; Specialists: 1.0 FCE), you are strongly advised to select the maximum number of course preferences.
- All students must ensure they have the required prerequisites by the end of August 2025 for the courses they have ranked. Do not assume that being able to register means prerequisites are met.
- Prerequisites are not checked at the time of course enrolment but will be verified by the Department in August/September and December/January. Students lacking prerequisites may have their registration cancelled.
- Course prerequisites are also posted here: Fall/Winter Course Descriptions 2025-2026.
- There is no guarantee you will receive your preferred course(s). The system will attempt to match preferences with available slots, but demand is high.
- Students will be enrolled into their assigned course(s) on ACORN immediately before registration begins on July 7, 2025.
- Students who have already completed the required number of 400-level courses or have less than 14 FCEs by the end of August 2025 will not have access to the preference ranking website.
- From July 7, 2025, students may request to enroll (space permitting) or waitlist courses on ACORN. Most POL 400-level courses are joint undergraduate–graduate seminars with ~20–25 students. If you are more than #3 on a waitlist, enrollment is unlikely and alternative options should be considered.
