Biography

Myrthe Bartels is a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Political Science. She specializes in ancient political thought and ancient Greek literature, especially Plato. Her current research project investigates how Plato conceptualizes the philosopher’s obligation to act in the common interest. She is the author of Plato’s Pragmatic Project. A Reading of Plato’s Laws (Steiner Verlag, 2017) and of the chapter on Plato’s Laws in the forthcoming Oxford Handbook of Ancient Greek Political Thought (OUP, 2025). She received her PhD in Classics from Leiden University (Netherlands).
