Biography

Menaka Philips is a political theorist who works on the politics of interpretation across a range of issues in historical and contemporary political thought. Her first book, The Liberalism Trap (Oxford University Press), examines how a focus on liberalism conditions receptions of John Stuart Mill, and it was awarded the C.B. Macpherson Prize for the Best Book in Political Theory. Philips has also published in outlets like the European Journal of Political Theory, Signs: Journal for Women in Culture and Society, the American Political Science Review, and the Washington Post.
