Twenty-First Century Latin American Politics
Themes
The course examines the trajectory and contradictions of contemporary Left-wing Latin American government and social movements. Topics receiving particular focus will be the internal inconsistencies of the so-called ‘Pink Tide’; the tension between social movement and electoral politics; extractive industries, the environment, and development; indigenous politics; and the growing influence of China in the region.
