Core Course: International Politics

Themes

The - core course in international relations is designed to familiarize doctoral students with competing and complementary theoretical approaches to international politics; to develop students’ ability to assess these literatures critically; and to help students refine the theoretical foundations of their subsequent dissertations. Among the topics to be considered are: metatheory; levels of analysis; power and interests; norms and identity; institutions; the state and transnational forces; and basic principles of research design. The course covers the international security, international political economy and global/transnational relations subfields.
