Topics in International Politics II
Great Power Politics
The course examines cooperation in a hierarchical international system. Three themes animate our inquiry: power and international order; the constitutive elements of the order; power shifts and order transformation. Many of the theoretical debates and substantive issues surveyed in this course are part of an ongoing debate on the nature of American power and the future of the liberal international order. Whenever possible we analyze real world developments and weigh policy tradeoffs.
