Canada in Comparative Politics

Themes

This course introduces students to the world of politics and the discipline of political science; it examines the variety of political regimes that exist around the world, with particular attention to Canada. Emphasis is placed on how distinctive regimes reflect the different past and present social and economic settings of countries. Politics and government in Canada will be compared with examples from around the world. Students will learn the basic concepts, approaches and ideas used in the study of Canadian and comparative politics.

Format and Requirements

Two lectures; and one tutorial seminar per week or as available. Written assignments include essays. There is an in-class mid-term test, and a final examination.
