Emotions in Political Theory

Themes

We know that emotions play an important role in everyday political life, but how should we understand and come to terms with the emotional side of politics? Through readings in both the history of political thought and contemporary political theory, this course explores the nature of emotion, competing accounts of its importance for good politics, and debates concerning the appropriateness of feelings of especially fear, shame, courage, joy and honour in contemporary liberal democratic life.
