China in the World

Themes

This course examines what China, as an economic powerhouse and a rising hegemon, means to the world. We will look at what drives China’s foreign policy, domestic sources of its foreign policy, Sino-US relations, and what China’s rise means for the international systems.

Format and Requirements

One two-hour seminar per week, consisting of highly demanding student presentation and discussion. Students are expected to do the assigned readings before classes and to actively contribute to class discussions.
