Themes
Explores key issues in Aboriginal-state relationsin Canada past and present, including the Royal Proclamation, the Indian Act and residential school policy. Provides students with an overview of historical and contemporary socio-political issues in Aboriginal societies and institutions such as Aboriginal self-governance, land claims,treaty negotiations and constitutional rights.

One two-hour lecture per week. Course requirements: mid-term take-home essay (20%), research paper (40%) and final exam (40%).
