Comparing World Regions: A Workshop on the Nature and Role of Regionalization in International Relations

Themes

In a nutshell: The course explores the post-Cold-War phenomenon of multi-state regions, a development of increasing importance in the international political economy. It will compare what we know about North America with the other major world regions, focusing on two analytical dimensions. Under the topic of cooperation we will compare their differing degrees of historical coherence, cultural homogeneity, and governance capacities. Under the topic of conflict we will compare their levels of intra-regional tensions and extra-regional competition – whether economic, political, or military.
