Religion and Politics
Themes
This course examines the evolving role of religions in contemporary public and political contexts. Themes include: democracy and secularism; religion, human rights, law and justice; party politics, identity formation and citizenship; global religious "publics"; gender and sexuality; interreligious conflict; religious violence, terror and fear; religion and the global order. (Given by the departments of Political Science and Religion)

Format and Requirements
Two hours of class per week, lecture format depending on class size. Requirements will include one major essay, one mid-term test, a final exam and perhaps an additional short exercise/assignment.
Prerequisites
1.0 POL credit or 1.5 FCEs in Religious Studies
