PhD Methodological Training

The Department believes that all PhD students should have a degree of methodological literacy, regardless of their area of interest. It provides a half course devoted to statistical methods, as well as courses on research design, quantitative methods, and qualitative methods.

Beginning in the 2009-10 academic year, students must complete the following requirements in methodological training:

• one half course (0.5 FCE) in Qualitative Methods, POL2505H.
• one half course (0.5 FCE) in Quantitative Methods except for students whose Field 1 is Political Theory.
• one half course (0.5 FCE) in Theory Intensive Reading (“TIRC” as indicated on the timetable) except for non-Theory students.
