Background Works on contemporary European politics and political history. He holds a Canada Research Chair in Immigration and Governance. He is author of Fire and Fury: the Allied Bombing of Germany, 1942-1945 (Doubleday 2008), Citizenship and Immigration in Postwar Britain (Oxford University Press); Towards a European Nationality (with Patrick Weil, Palgrave); as well as articles in World Politics, Comparative Politics, the British Journal of Political Science, and the European Journal of Political Research.
