Biography

Current research is on populism in the Global South and on the impact of poverty and inequality on politics. Publications include articles on the politics of Latin America and the Global South in scholarly journals including Race and Class, World Development, International Political Science Review, Studies in Comparative International Development, Comparative Politics, Global Governance, Third World Quarterly, Social Science History, Latin American Research Review, Mexican Studies, Latin American Politics and Society, and in edited volumes. Author of The Politics of Inclusive Development. Policy, State Capacity and Coalition Building (Palgrave 2016); Social Forces and States: Poverty and Distributional Outcomes in South Korea, Chile and Mexico (Stanford University Press, 2012), The Politics of Freeing Markets in Latin America: Chile, Argentina and Mexico (University of North Carolina Press, 2001) and of two books on Mexican politics. Co-author, Social Democracy in the Global Periphery: Origins, Challenges, Prospects (Cambridge University Press, 2007).
