Biography

Research interests: International development, politics of social reproduction, practices of citizenship, and state formation in the Middle East and North Africa. Work examines the ways in which the urban poor, especially poor women, negotiate inhabiting the city, including accessing land and financing, bringing infrastructure and services to their neighborhoods, and engaging with local governments, as well as the effects of these negotiations on practices of citizenship from the colonial to the post-revolution state. She has published articles in Middle East Law and Governance, Gender Place & Culture, Perspectives on Politics, and Public Culture, among others.
