Sixteen undergraduate students awarded 2013 Gordon Cressy Student Leadership Award

Sixteen undergraduate students with the Department of Political Science are recipients of the 2013 Gordon Cressy Student Leadership Award.

The Gordon Cressy Student Leadership Awards were established in 1994 by the University of Toronto Alumni Association (UTAA) and the Division of University Advancement in order to recognize students who have made outstanding extra-curricular contributions to their college, faculty or school, or to the university as a whole.

Here is the list of Political Science students who will be presented with this award at Convocation Hall on Monday, April 28th at 6:00 pm.

Four of the 2012 Gordon Cressy Student Leadership Awards Recipients from Political Science

The student experience at the University of Toronto is more than classes and books. It is life on campus, in the community and in the world at large. The Cressy Awards recognize graduating students for outstanding contributions to improving the world around them and  inspiring others to do the same.

    Salvator Cusimano, and Sima Atri are named 2012 UTAA Scholars

    Political Science students Sima Atri, and Salvator Cusimano, the current President of the Association of Political Science Students at the University of Toronto (APSS), were each named one of the 2012 UTAA Scholars for their demonstrated commitment to enhancing the University experience of their peers.

    Throughout its rich history, the University of Toronto has striven to promote and recognize excellence among its community members. The University of Toronto Alumni Association (UTAA) has played an integral role in supporting this mission, developing and administering a distinguished awards program to acknowledge outstanding faculty, staff, students, and alumni. The UTAA awards programs date back to 1921, with the initiation of the John H. Moss Scholarship, awarded to outstanding student leaders.

    Undergraduate Award Reception

    The Annual Undergraduate Award Reception was held on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 in the Political Science Lounge and celebrated the award recipients from the 2010-2011 academic year.

    One of the awards is the Pollara Book Prize, which is awarded to the student who produces the best research report in POL 242Y. The 2010-11 recipient of this prize is William Schatten.  His winning submission is available on YouTube, and is posted here:

    Semra Sevi talks about balancing academic and extracurricular activities

    Semra always knew that she wanted to be a debater and dreamed of attending law school. So, when she arrived at U of T, she wasted no time jumping straight into an array of extracurricular activities.

    “I first discovered the many clubs at U of T at clubs day in my Frosh Week and never looked back,” she explains simply.
